Captain Jimmy leads our Homer Halibut Charter captains and deckhands. 

Captain Jimmy Counts does it all. Military veteran, father, husband, hunter, fisherman, United States Coast Guard Captain – Halibut Hunter Extraordinaire. 

When Captain Jimmy is not in Alaska, he spends his most his time in South Carolina. He continues to explore his passion for all things fishing in South Carolina with his own charter company called Jimmy Counts outdoors. He is also an IGFA observer for sport fishing tournaments sponsored throughout the world.

When he’s not fishing in Alaska or South Carolina, he can be found spending quality time with his family or you’ll find him chasing outdoor adventures of all kinds. Captain Jimmy is an avid outdoorsman, sportsman, and hunter.

Captain Jim Voss

Hometown: Kenai, Alaska

Captain Jim grew up in Kenai Alaska and attended Kenai High School – go Kards! After high school, he attended Montana State University where he earned both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in electrical engineering. Later, he would earn a MBA from University of Maryland. 

Captain Jim doubles as Kenai River guide when needed and can be found guiding clients on the Kenai River for salmon as well. He is also a flight instructor and teaches single engine, multi-engine and instrument flight.

In the off season, he spends his time with his family, and a researcher in the field of artificial intelligence.

Captain Clint Smith

Captain Clint Smith of Homer Halibut Hunters is a seasoned professional with seven years of Alaskan experience and a 100 Ton Master’s License, dedicated to providing a safe, fun, and productive fishing adventure for anglers of all skill levels. 

Known by his crew and friends as honest and selfless, Clint’s patient guiding philosophy—often summarized by his favorite saying, “Let’s wet a line”—focuses on helping beginners feel confident while sharing expert tips with seasoned pros to ensure a full deck of fish. 

From his background in competitive tournaments to his incredible story of landing a 387-pound halibut, Clint’s profile offers a deep dive into the passion and expertise he brings to the waters of Kachemak Bay. Captain Ethan White

Captain Ethan White of Homer Halibut Hunters offers a unique blend of technical mastery and educational passion, drawing on his background as a diesel mechanic and his experience working the rugged Bering Sea crab boats. 

Known as “The Technician and The Teacher,” Ethan’s guiding style is defined by his patience and his desire to turn every charter into an immersive learning experience, where guests of all ages gain a deeper understanding of Kachemak Bay’s complex ecosystem.

Captain Dave Townsend

Captain Robert “Dave” Townsend is a highly seasoned mariner with over 20 years of Alaskan experience and a lifetime of fishing intuition rooted in his Florida upbringing. 

Holding a 100-Ton Master license, Dave transitioned from a career as a power plant operator to professional guiding, bringing a disciplined “checklist” mentality to his vessel to ensure safety and success. 

Known for his high-energy, educational guiding style, he specializes in teaching guests the “rod-in-holder” method—a patient technique essential for landing monster Halibut—while fostering an environment of open communication and storytelling. Whether he is navigating the “Halibut Capital of the World” during the summer or working on Great Lakes ore ships in the winter, Dave’s commitment to the maritime lifestyle is absolute, making him a cornerstone of the Homer Halibut Hunters crew.

Deckhand Seth Krause

Deckhand Seth Krause brings a dedicated Midwestern work ethic and lifelong passion for angling to the Homer Halibut Hunters crew during his inaugural season in Alaska. 

Originally from the small farm town of Stone Bank, Wisconsin, Seth spent his youth chasing Lake Michigan salmon and trout before moving to the Kenai Peninsula just one week after high school graduation. Currently working toward his OUPV Six-Pack Captain’s License, he defines his guiding philosophy through clear communication and educational engagement, ensuring every guest—from novice to pro—feels confident with their gear. 

Known for his adventurous and outgoing personality, as well as his firm “no bananas on the boat” rule, Seth views his role as a company ambassador dedicated to building lasting bonds with clients. When the season concludes, he returns to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to spend his winters as a true outdoorsman hunting, skiing, and hiking.

Jamie Davis

Hometown: Soldotna, Alaska

Jamie Davis is the general and office manager of Homer Halibut Hunters. 

Jamie Davis has been all over Alaska, including working for several years managing a logging operation on Afognak, Island in Kodiak, Alaska.
